Choosing the Perfect Gift with Aisha Alkayali from The Gift Pick

When we met Aisha Alkayali and discovered The Gift Pick we immediately knew we had found a go-to site for all things style and gifting inspiration. Expertly curated by theme, color or occasion, The Gift Pick offers unique gift guides for everyone on your list. We asked Aisha to tell us more about her journey to create The Gift Guide, as well as offer some must have favorites for your kiddos!

Q: The Gift Pick is our go-to resource for all things gifting! Tell us about what inspired you to create your company.

It all started when I was going to multiple birthday parties and constantly on the hunt for thoughtful gifts for my friends and my kid's friends. There is a local store I love to frequent that has the best curated gift walls. They do an amazing job creating a theme and selecting merchandise to go with that theme and it got me thinking, we could curate something fun and unique for more than just the local shoppers. Plus, I love to shop online! My business partner is also a very thoughtful gift giver so when I pitched it to her, she was totally obsessed. We are always on the hunt to find great brands and introduce new brands and gift ideas so it came pretty easily to us when we started this company. Our goal is to curate the perfect gift picks and to share our current favorite fashion finds too.

Q: You have an incredible eye. What do you think are the most important things to consider when creating a thoughtful gift?

I usually buy things that I want or absolutely LOVE. I like to find gifts that speak to the person I'm giving the gift to- Does this person enjoy more of an experience gift? What is this friend's interest? With these things in mind I start searching for the perfect item. I love introducing new brands or passion projects to people.

Q: What is the best gift you have ever received?

ART. My husband bought me a piece of artwork when we were expecting my daughter. I had babysat the artist's kids growing up so it was so neat to actually own her art and hang it in my daughter's room. It's still my favorite item in her room. My kids make me some of the most amazing homemade art projects, which are always so sweet. They always feel so proud and excited to share it with me which makes my heart skip a beat. A great gift I received this year was a custom watercolor portrait of my kids from Sophie and Lili.

Q: What advice do you have for women who are starting the journey of creating their own business?

Make sure you are extremely passionate about what you do. If you love what you do, then everything else will fall into place. If it comes from your heart, you will have that drive to make your business succeed. It's also important to surround yourself with an amazing tribe. Whether it's your supportive husband, spouse, best friend, sister or a few entrepreneurial friends, it's so important to be around people who will continually support you in what you are doing. When you have those days when you need a pep talk or some advice, it’s always great to have that support group; they will be your biggest cheerleaders.
