Play is okay! tip
Welcome the use of small toys (people, animals, vehicles) or open-ended play materials (play silks, loose parts, shapes cut from felt) during block play. Less is more. Begin by introducing one prop at a time. For example, place 4 wooden animals or 2 play silks in a shallow basket beside your child’s blocks and observe the pretend play these props inspire. With time and practice, your child will gather his or her own materials as he builds.
